"Unmanned", "no contact", and "long distance" have become rigid requirements and development trends for many industries to maintain operations in the past year. While the epidemic has promoted the digital transformation of industrial manufacturing, it has also witnessed the tremendous role of collaborative mobile robots in the fields of medical and public services. From purification and disinfection, transporting food and drugs, assisting medical staff in monitoring vital signs, to controlling entry and exit, the scope of application of collaborative mobile robots is continuously expanding, and it can complete a variety of assistance and service tasks.

Taking the field of public health as an example, according to the research report of the Institute of Foresight Industry [1], in 2019, the market size of China's commercial cleaning robot demand has reached about 380 million yuan. After the epidemic, the demand for commercial cleaning robots in public places has increased, speeding up their deployment in airports, railway stations, exhibition halls and other scenarios. The market size is expected to reach 3 billion yuan in 2025. The leader in the global mobile robot market-Mobile Industrial Robots (hereinafter referred to as: MiR)'s Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR), with its safety, flexibility and openness, can meet the current demands for automation in the public health and service fields. Diversified needs.

Automated transformation of high-load hospital disinfection center

The disinfection center of the hospital is mainly responsible for strictly cleaning and sterilizing various equipment, utensils, knives, scissors and other materials, and is responsible for supplying medical equipment, dressings and other materials to various departments. The material transportation operation of the disinfection center mainly relies on manpower, which involves a large number of heavy objects handling and pushing and pulling work. The tasks are arduous and the equipment and the environment need to be strictly aseptic.

At the beginning of 2021, MiR and KEN Hygiene System, a Danish cleaning system technology company, jointly launched a new robot solution KEN AL10 that can be used in hospital disinfection centers. The staff of the disinfection center can instruct the robot with the empty washing tray rack to load the contaminated equipment by simply touching the tablet computer. Then, the staff can send the robot to the vacant disinfection and washing machine, and put the tray rack into the washing machine. The disinfection and cleaning machine automatically receives instructions to start the cleaning cycle. When the instrument is cleaned and disinfected, another robot will arrive at the “cleaning complete” side to empty the cleaning machine and transport the cleaned tray rack to the packaging station. All operations are completed. The robot will automatically return to the charging station to charge before the battery runs out.

Through automated logistics technology, KEN AL10 can optimize the hospital’s arduous medical equipment disinfection and cleaning work, and relieve the pressure of manual handling of materials that need to be disinfected, especially for hospitals and medical workers that are already overloaded in the current epidemic, shortening their task time, thereby Promote occupational health requirements in the workplace.

Hospital material transportation automation operation

In addition to the scenario of the disinfection center, the daily operation of the hospital also involves other various material transportation tasks, including the transportation of medical drugs and intravenous infusions. This type of transportation is highly repetitive but has low technical value. Through automated processing, doctors and nurses can save more time to devote themselves to the treatment of patients. MiR AMR has been successfully deployed in several hospitals in China and Denmark, including Shenzhen Baoan District Maternity and Child Health Hospital and the well-known University of Zealand Affiliated Hospital in Denmark.

MiR AMR is currently responsible for the transportation of medical equipment and materials in the Affiliated Hospital of the University of Zealand, and is responsible for automatically transporting the items from the disinfection center to the various departments of the hospital. MiR AMR can navigate autonomously, flexibly run through hospital corridors, run stably between patients and doctors, and deliver materials to designated locations in a safe and timely manner. Since it was put into use in 2018, MiR AMR has effectively assisted hospital staff in improving services, minimizing storage space, saving steps and preventing shortages, and has rapidly spread in hospitals. MiR AMR travels an average of more than 10 kilometers per week, realizing the automation of the delivery of disposable sterile instruments, increasing the frequency of manually transporting disposable medical instruments to various departments once a week, and ensuring sufficient supply of materials.

Normalized disinfection of public places to achieve consistent and reliable

The epidemic has increased the public’s awareness and attention to the cleanliness of public spaces, and daily disinfection of public places has become one of the important tasks that businesses and management institutions must do every day. Taking schools, airports, exhibition halls, factories and other spaces as examples, ensuring strict and thorough disinfection of all surfaces in multiple rooms in a large area is a time-consuming major project. The use of automated solutions not only frees manpower from this repetitive work, but also ensures that the disinfection and cleaning work is highly consistent and reliable.

With the out-of-the-box solution of MiRGo, MiR AMR can complete the extension of the robot function by installing a disinfection module, and become a disinfection robot that provides functions such as ultraviolet rays and spray disinfection. Teradyne, a global supplier of automatic test equipment, deploys multiple MiR AMR disinfection robots according to the needs of the factory environment in different regions, and performs daily disinfection work in different spaces at different frequencies.

Take Teradyne’s factory in Massachusetts, USA as an example. The factory area is connected by three multi-storey buildings. The MiR AMR disinfection robot works at night and can disinfect 30-40 square meters of space in about 15 minutes. The operation is efficient and stable. In Teradyne’s California factory, considering its small scale, the MiR AMR disinfection robot takes a daily lunch break and laboratory workers operate during lunch breaks, which can complete rapid disinfection operations without affecting personnel work and factory operations.

As an open collaborative mobile robot, MiR AMR can be easily integrated for a variety of applications to meet the needs of different types of transportation automation. MiR currently has seven AMR products with different load levels, ranging from the lightest weight of 100 kilograms to the recently released 1,350 kilograms, which can meet the full-scene use of production lines in multiple industries. At the same time, through the out-of-the-box tool platform MiRGo, MiR AMR can refine product functions to complete the loading and unloading of transport pallets and shelves.
